If you dread the turning of the seasons because you've got nothing good to wear, or spilled Monday's coffee on your best pair of work pants, or have just put off shopping for way too long, this article is for you. It can be discouraging to open your closet and feel unhappy with everything that's inside. But even if you're on a budget, you can still rock some awesome fashion.
1. Taking Advice from Macklemore
Thrift shops are more like fashion gold mines than people give them credit for. You've got to fight to spot the treasure before the other shoppers, and sift through a lot of nonsense to get the gold. You can come away with great, unusual pieces for only a few dollars, or you can snag the basics for way less than usual. If you need more t-shirts or tanks, there's really no difference between last season and today.
2. Don't Pay Retail Anywhere
There's no reason to pay retail price for clothing, ever. Most retailers inflate the ticket price to make it feel like you're getting a steal when things inevitably go on sale. Product flows quickly into and out of stores, and discounted to support rapid movement. It can actually be cheaper to buy a well made product on sale from a department store than to pay the asking price for the same thing from a big box chain.
3. Google Everything
Say you discover the perfect pair of shoes in a shop window while you're strolling down the street. All you need is the exact name of the product and about three minutes. Sometimes, brick and mortar stores offer the same product for sale in their online store, and other times you'll just find that someone else is selling the same exact thing for less. If you've got your heart set on a specific item, a little search time can make a big difference in price.
Shop with skepticism. Is something worth the asking price? Can you do better elsewhere? Your closet (and your wallet) will thank you.
